On magnetic and luminescent centres induced in the crystal of lithium fluoride by X-ray irradiation

The diamagnetic susceptibility of LiF decreases on irradiation wlth x rays. The difference in diamagnetic susceptibility of the samp1e before and after coloration obeys the Curie law. This is because of the paramagnetism of induced color centers, predominantly F centers. On complete thermal bleaching the diamagnetlc susceptibility recovers its original value. The changes in magnetic susceptibilities that occur at different stages of thermal bleaching are found to have close correspondence with the integrated intensity of thermoluminescence emission. It is concluded from the results that the destruction of F oenters/ alone cannot account for the intensity of thermoluminescenoe umission or magnetic changes.
