A PROPANE BUBBLE CHAMBER WITH MECHANICAL EXPANSION

Journal Article · · Nuclear Instr. & Methods
A description is given of a propane bubble chamber with a sensitive volume of one liter, in which the expansion is effected by a mechanical method. A flywheel driven by a small electric motor provides a reservoir of mechanical energy, and the energy for an expansion is withdrawn through a magnetic clutch. Such an assembly is compact and readily transportable, and the recycling rate can be once per second. Information is given concerning the possible size of chamber that could be operated by this technique, using commercially available magnetic clutches. (auth)
