Multiple scatter corrections by Monte Carlo

Two Monte Carlo programs written to correct measurements of neutron scattering cross sections for effects due to the finite dimensions of the scattering sample are described. The first program calculates multiple scatter corrections to be applied to the experimentally determined ratio sigma /sub in/: sigma /sub el/, and also obtains the flux attenuation correction. The second enables the shapes of the experimentally determined differential elastic and inelastic cross sections to be corrected for multiple scatter. An account of an application of the programs to measurements of the scattering of l.5-Mev neutrons by Na/ssup 23/ is also given.
