The basic relation between plasma and electromagnetic field is defined. The electrical conductivity of plasma is most important, and is really the basis of magnetohydrodynamics. As a conductor, plasma is acted on by the magnetic field. Other basic comments made are: waves in plasma, are analogous to sound waves, they carry electric charges, and can move in the electric field. Electromagnetic waves can also move in plasma. MHD (alfven) waves have a low frequency. In space (ionosphere) the most prevalent material is-plasma. Ultraviolet rays ionize the upper layers of the atmosphere. This is of significance for radio reception on the magnetosphere and on the ionosphere of the moon. Northern lights show that plasma is present in interplanetary space. The corona of the sun goes a long way out into space, and recent opinions state that the earth moves through the corona. With regard to the interplanetary magnetic field, the magnitude can be judged from cosmic radiations, and from comet movement (order of 10/sup -6/ gauss). The corpuscular movement from the sun carries magnetic fields through space to the earth. There is an electromagnetic field in every corner of the galaxy. (OTS)
