A NOTE ON THE STIMULATED DECAY OF THE $lambda$$sup 0$-HYPERON

A review is presented of experimental studies of the stimulated decay of LAMBDA /sup o/ hyperons in hyperfragments. In these studies, it is assumed that the decay is stimulated by nucleons, and that stimulation by one nucleon is the dominant channel. Inferences are drawn as to the mechanisms of the stimulation by analyzing the energy distributions and emission frequencies of protons emitted in the non-mesonic decay of the hyperfragments. It is suggested that the selection of events for these studies be based primarily on the detailed analysis of the hyperfragment production process involved. It is noted that it is possible, in principle, to specify a physically significant lower cutoff energy for the protons. (T.F.H.)
