LIFTING DEVICE FOR THE ELEMENTS OF A NUCLEAR REACTOR

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4813209
The device can be let down into a reactor channel and be coupled with the handling head of the element to be lifted. The lifting device has at its lower end a grip comprising an outer case in which a central piece with a preferably coneshaped lower nose may slide. The lower part of the inner wall of said case and the surface of the central piece define an annular interspace, the said surfaces of the case and piece being each provided with an annular groove at nearly the same level. A number of clamps are provided, each of which bears two lateral protuberances at its upper end, which protuberances engage respectively with the two grooves in such a way that an axial movement of the central piece relative to the case, produces a turning movement of the clamps. The lower ends of the clamps are hook-shaped and lock the handling head of the element after they have been turned toward the axis of the grip, the conical nose coming to rest in a corresponding conical hole in the handling head. The central piece may be locked by appropriate means agannnst movement relative to the case. (NPO)
