ELECTRO-HYDRAULIC CONTROL DEVICE FOR THE CONTROL ORGANS OF NUCLEAR REACTORS

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4813208
The advantages of hydraulically controlled rod drives and of the "Magnetic Jack" drives are united in a device comprising a piston that is connected at one side with the control rod and at the other side with the bar bundle of a "Magnetic Jack" drive. This piston slides inside a cylinder reaching into the reactor, the axis of this cylinder being alignment with the axis of a reactor channel. The part of the cylinder that is always separated by the piston from the reactor core is put into communication with a low-pressure part of the cooling circuit of the reactor or with a highpressure part thereof in order to move the piston respectively in the two possible directions. Suitably, the communication is effected by a remotely controlled two-way valve. The "Magnetic Jack" device serves only for holding the rods in position and for controlling the speed of their displacement; this is effected by feeding the coil of the "Magnetic Jack" with electric current impulses.
