MEASUREMENT OF THE DIFFUSION LENGTH IN D$sub 2$O (in German)

In the exponential pile at Wurenlingen, the neutron diffusion length of D/sub 2/O was measured for four different concentrations and compared with a theoretical curve calculated from basic data. The value of L = 136 plus or minus 7 cm, extrapolated from the measurement results, for a concentration range of 100% is approximately 10% lower than the theoretical value calculated with a microscopic absolute cross section of sigma /sub a/ = 1.3 mb. An increase of this cross section by about 0.2 mb would greatly improve the agreement. (tr- auth)
