ISOBARIC SPIN DEPENDENCE OF THE OPTICAL POTENTIAL AND QUASI-ELASTIC (p,n) REACTIONS
The isobaric spin dependence of the real part of the nuclear potential is investigated. Such a dependence is expected theoretically from the action of Heisenberg forces and the exchange effects of other forces. When suitably averaged, the isobaric spin term produces a dependence of the potential on the symmetry number (N--Z)/A. The isobaric spin dependence has two major implications: that all proton levels are split into two components; and that (p,n) reactions leading to the isobaric counterpart of the target state are predicted.
