FABRICATION DEVELOPMENT OF APM FUEL ELEMENTS FOR ORGANIC COOLED REACTORS

Journal Article · · Nuclear Eng.
OSTI ID:4810461
Strength at high temperature, high thermal conductivity, neutron absorption, and good corrosion resistance make aluminum powder metallurgy (APM) alloys especially , suitable for cladding and structural materials for organic cooled and moderated reactor fuel elements. Fabrication techniques developed for the APM alloys are described and they include such methods as conventional forging rolling, and extrusion processes The principal properties and the diffusion bonding method for joining the APM alloys are also discussed.
