LEAST SQUARES FIT INCLUDING ESTIMATE OF ERROR IN PARAMETERS

A program written in FORTRAN automatic coding system for an lBM 704 digital computer is described. It computes the parameters a, b, and c for a quadratic equation, y == a + bx + cx/sup 2/, to be fit to experimental data points. The data points to be used have uncertainties in the y'' direction which are considered in the statistical analysis by the program. The program also computes the standard deviation of y from the fitted curve, chi-square, the deviation of a, b, and c due to statistical methods used, and the deviation of a, b, and c with correction made for the uncertainties in the y/sub i/'s.
