APPLICATION TO THE MICROGRAPHIC STUDY OF NUCLEAR MATERIALS OF THE "PLUG" ELECTROLYTIC POLISHING (in French)

Journal Article · · Inds. atomiques
OSTI ID:4810150
The new technique of local electrolytic polishing (Ellopol) already used with great success for the majority of metallic surfaces is remarkably suitable for uranium, uranium alloys, zirconium and its alloys, thorium, and vanadium. In addition to the micrographs it gives, this technique presents substantial advantages over traditional electrolytic procedures (ease of operation and very low consumption of electrolyte whose composition does not change). Finally, it can be applied to samples of any shape and size, which is valuable for nondestructive control. When the surface can not be observed directly, a plastic replica method, which is not described, can be used. (tr-auth)
