Title: OXIDATION RESISTANT HIGH TEMPERATURE PROTECTIVE COATINGS FOR TUNGSTEN. Third Quarterly Progress Report, November 1, 1961-January 31, 1962

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4810018

Continued investigation is reported on formation and properties of bonded-metal ceramic coatings for W. Studies were also continued on vacuum pack deposition of Ti, Zr, Y, Si, and co-deposition of B, and W with various combinations of these metals to form surface diIfusion alloys with W sheet. Seven coated W systems were evaluated in cyclic oxidation tests at 2500, 3000, and 3300 deg F. W protection was effected at 2500 deg F for 36 hrs under cyclic conditions and at 3300 deg F for l0.3 hrs with five cycles to room temperature. The high temperature oxidation turnace operated for l200 hrs during the period at temperatures above 3000 deg F. (J.R.D.)
