Investigations on the obtention separation, and purification of tantalum and niobium chiefly by electrolytic methods. III. Obtention of tantalum, niobium, and vanadium by electrolysis of cryolitic solutions of their pentoxides (in French)

The electrolysis of cryolitic solutions of the pentoxides of Ta, Nb, or V gives on the cathode a deposit of the metal of the pentoxides with practically no Al. This result is a confirmation of the primary discharge of the Me5+ ions. When operating with a carbon anode, the metals deposited on the cathode are contaminated with carbon, present mainly as carbide.
