STRIPPING WITH 28-Mev DEUTERONS

Journal Article · · Physical Review (U.S.) Superseded in part by Phys. Rev. A, Phys. Rev. B: Solid State, Phys. Rev. C, and Phys. Rev. D
S>A study of (d,t) and (d,p) reactions was performed using 28-Mev deuterons. The outgoing particles were analyzed using a scintillation spectrometer. The absolute differential cross section of the following processes was measured: Li/sup 7/(d,t)Li/sup 6/, Be/sup 9/(d,p)Be/sup 10/, Be/sup 9/(d,p)Be/ sup 10 */-3.37 Mev, (d,p)C/sup 13/, and c/sup 12/(d,p)C/sup 13*/-3.68 Mev. Angular distributions were fitted by direct-interaction planewave theoretical curves. All the reactions take place between states of known spin and parity. The Li/sup 7/(d,t)Li/sup 6/ reaction can be fitted using a pickup'' curve correspondirg to 1 = 1 and a = 5 f, where 1 is the angular momentum change and a is the interaction radius. With the exception fitted by superimposing the theoretical curves of 1 = 1 and 1 = 3, Be/sup 9/(d,p)Be/sup 10/ with an interaction radius a = 3.5 f, Be/sup 9/(d,p)Be/sup 10*/-3.37 Mev with a = 3.8 f, B/sup 10/(d,p)B/sup 11/ with a = 3.6 f, and C/sup 12/(d,p)C/sup 13/ with a = 3.5 f. The C/sup 12/(d p)C/sup 1 -3.68 Mev angular distribution was fitted using a theoretical curve of 1 = 1 and a = 3.4 f. The stripping reduced widths were calculated for the 1 contributions to the experimental cross section. The appearance of the f component in addition to the p component predicted by the shell model in the differential cross sections, tentatively assumed, could be due to configuration mixing, and the levels connected by the transitions should not be pure shell-model states.
