INVESTIGATION OF EMISSION FROM ELECTRODE SYSTEMS IN CESIUM VAPOR. Scientific Report No. 9

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4808923
Emission measurements froni various electrode systems are described, and observations on hot cathode discharges in Cs vapor are presented. Emission measurements give the boundary conditions at the electrode surfaces in thermionic convcrtcrs, and possibly give an indication of thc relative bond strength of Cs to the electrode surface. The importanee of the interplay of electron space charge effects and surface ionization is shown. The general form of the Ta--Cs emission system was measured. Ta offers a more sultable anode material for the converter than W. The socalled second mode was shown to be a hot cathode discharge. (auth)
