Reactions involving tritons and He/sup 3/ ions are of special interest because the properties of nuclei at high excitation energies may be studied at a relatively low kinetic energy of the bombarding particles. For this reason neutron spectra obtained upon bombarding thin targets contain ing Li/sup 6/, Li/ sup 7/ and Be/sup 9 were investigated at energies ranging from 140 kev to 1.4 Mev in a horizontaI electrostatic generator. Gas containing 2 to 8% tritium and 92 to 98% He ' was used in the high-frequency ion source. The neutron yield of the Li/sup 6/(t,n) and Be/sup 9/(t,n) reactions was found to be proportional to the penetrability of the Coulomb barrier. At low energies of the acceIerated particles resonances corresponding to the reaction threshold values of the constituent nucIei were observed in the Li/sup 7/(t,n) and Li/sup 7/(He/sup 3/,n reactions. In studying the thresholds of formation of slow neutrons by interaction of these nuclei with tritons, slow neutrons corresponding to the Be/ sup 8/ nucleus at l6.08, 16.66, and 16.94 Mev and to the Be/sup 9/ nucleus greatly below the I0.50-Mev level were observed. The neutron spectra determined under and angle of 0/sup 0/ by means of nuclear emulsions agreed well with the values of Be/sup 8/, Be/sup 9, B/sup 9/, B/sup 11/ and C/sup 11/ reported by F. Ajzenberg-Selove and T. Lauritsen (Nuclear Physics I1, 1: I(1959)). (TTT)
