Title: A STUDY OF THE FEASIBILITY OF USING SCINTILLATING FIBERS FOR LOW ENERGY BETA COUNTING. Quarterly Report No. 1, June 15, 1961-September 14, 1961

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4808061

Design features of a scintillation detector using hexagonal close-packed bundles of scintillating fibers are described. A 2 pi geometry is approached by dispersing the sample in the voids between the individual fiber strands. Careful selection of the photomultiplier tube, preamplifier, and amplifier assure low noise and high gain, which are necessary for low-energy- beta counting. (T.F.H.)
