X-RAY STUDIES OF /deltao/ AND /epsilon/ ZIRCONIUM HYDRIDES

Fifteen samples of zirconium hydride ranging in compositlon from ZrH/sub 1/646 to ZrH/sub 1.997/ were prepared, and examined by means of x-ray diffraction. The minimum range of coexistence at room temperature of the face-centered cubic 6-phase and the face-centered tetragonal epsilon -phase was found to lie approximately between ZrH/sub 1.64/ and ZrH/sub 1.73/. The lattice parameters corresponding to the patterns obtained were computed using a least-squares method with - application of the Nelson-Riley correction function. The c/a ratios obtained for the samples of different compositlons of the epsilon -phase were compared with values reported previously. (auth)
