SPECIFIC ACCUMULATORS OF INDIVIDUAL RADIOISOTOPES AMONG FRESH WATER ORGANISMS (in Russian)
The distribution coefficients of 19 different radioisotopes have been determined for 32 kinds of fresh water plants and for 20 kinds of fresh water, animal life. Low accumulaion coefficients are found on the average for S/sup 35/ , Ca/sup 45/, Ge/sup 71/, Sr/sup 90/, I/sup 131/ and Cs/sup 137/. High coefficients are found on the ave rage for P/sup 32/, Fe/sup 59/, Co/sup 60/, Zn/ sup 65/, Ce/sup 144/, Hg/sup 209 /, Y/sup 91/, Zr/sup 95/ and Nb/sup 95/. Average coefficients are found for Cr/sup 51/, Rb/sup 86/, Ru/sup 106/, and Cd/ sup 115/. The accumulation coefficients are higher on the average for plant life than for animal life. Specific forms of animal life are noted that show high accumulation coeffieients for P/sup 32/, Co/sup 60/, Sr/sup 90/, Y/sup 91/ and Cs/ sup 137/ . Single -cell forms of plant life and filamentary seaweed accumulate 6 to 8 different radioisotopes. Seven of fifteen of the radioisotopes are strongly concentrated by 5 kinds of animal life (out of 20 different kinds investigated), and 13 of 19 radioisotopes are strongly concentrated by 10 kinds of plant life (out of 32 kinds investigated). These results show the importance of plant life (especially, filamentary seaweed) in purifying water. (TTT)
