PULSE-ANNEALING OF RADIATION ANNEALED HANFORD GRAPHITE SAMPLES

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4806140
The results of the pulse-annealing of Hanford radiationannealed specimens of AGOT-CSF type graphite are presented. Radiation annealing is shown to be considerably more effective than thermal annealing alone in reducing the damage-induced change in thermal resistivtty and thermoelectric power. The electrical resistivity is relatively insensitive to radiation annealing for the exposure histories studied. The thermal resistivity of the radiation damaged graphite is found to return to a value below its original preirradiation value following thermal annealing. A 30% decrease is indicated in the thermal resistivity following radiation damage and subsequent thermal annealing at 2200 deg C, as compared with the preirradiation value. (auth)
