The texts of the principal papers and summaries of discussion on film badge dosimetry are presented. Various systems used for film badges, the photographic action of ionizing radiation, the comparative response of various photographic films, and problems encountered in personnel monitoring are reviewed. The design is described of a film badge for use in radiation monitoring of personnel in industrial, technical, and hospital establishments. The case of the holder is of a plastic material and filters of 0.028-in. Sn plus 0.012-in. Pb, and 0.028-in. Cd plus 0.040-in. Duralumin are inserted. Spaces are also provided for an additional metal filter and for In foil. A slot is provided for attachment of a second dosimeter or criticality pack. Kodak radiation monitoring film is used in the holder. Data are included on the response of the dosimeter to x and gamma radiations, thermal neutrons, and BETA particles. The usefulness of the dosimeter in large-scale fllm monitoring is discussed. (C.H.)
