SPECTROGRAPHIC DETERMINATION OF THORIUM IN URANIUM ORE

Thorium in uranium ores was separated and purified by lanthanum fluoride precipitation and TTA extraction. After the purification, ziiconiund internal standard was added and the thorium determined bv emission spectrometry. Successful determinations were made on 1 gram of uranium ore containing as little as 0.1 ppm of thorium with an average Th/sup 234/ traced- reeovery of 85%. The precision of the method expressed as a relative standard deviation was plus or minus 12% at the 1 ppm level. (P.C.H.)
