CORROSION AND HYDROGEN ABSORPTION PROPERTIES OF NICKEL-FREE ZIRCALOY-2 AND ZIRCALOY-4

Journal Article · · Trans. Am. Soc. Metals
OSTI ID:4805813
The hot water and steam corrosion and hydrogen absorption properties of the latest additions to the zirconium alloy family, nickel-free Zircaloy-2 and Zircaloy-4, are presented and discussed. The alloys are essentially Zircaloy-2 except that the nickel contents were modified to less than 70 ppm. Both materials exhibit corrosion resistance similar to that of Zircaloy-2. The modified alloys however, absorb a lower amount of corrosionproduced hydrogen than Zircaloy-2. The effects of compositional variations, heat treatment, and fabrication upon the corrosion and hydrogen absorption are presented and discussed. (auth)
