A FAST COINCIDENCE SINGLE-CHANNEL SPECTROMETER (thesis)
Technical Report
·
OSTI ID:4805787
A fast coincidence spectrometer was designed to be used for recording BETA -- gamma coincidences at faster resolving times than were available with previous electronics. The instru ment has a minimum resolving time of 0.01 mu sec with pulse height selection available for both channels. A plastic phosphor detector is used in the beta channel and a NaI(Tl) detector analyzes the photons from the beta source. The detectors, amplifiers, single-channel analyzers, coincidence circuit, timers, and scalers are described. Theory and method of operation and alignment are discussed. Single-channel analyzer resolution, quantitative measurements, and sources of error are also discussed. (M.C.G.)
