PROGRESS ON USAEC/AECL COOPERATIVE PROGRAM, QUARTERLY REPORT FOR PERIOD MARCH-MAY 1962

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4805776

Progress is reported in investigations of cold-bonding methods and creep- rupture properties in areas associated with heavy water and organic moderated reactors. Rollformed joints incorporating Ag-alloy liners exhibited strengths approaching that of Zircaloy members. Various parameters were evaluated in explosive-welding tests yielding welds which would withstand a 1/8-in.-radius blend without failure. Upset forming and forge welding of SAP alloy end-cap configurations on tube ends provided pressure-tight assemblies. Details and data concerning the long-term creep-rupture program on SAP alloys are included. (J.R.D.)
