EFFECTS OF IRON OXIDE ON Zr MASS SINTERING AND ZrO$sub 2$ STABILIZATION PROCESSES (in Russian)
Admixtures of Fe/sub 2/O/sub 2/ to magnesium-stabilized ZrO/sub 2/ reduces the sintering temperature by 200 to 300 deg C and can be used as a mineralizer in the preparation of ZrO/sub 2/ materials at 1400 deg C. At 1500 deg C the MgO forms a solid solution with ZrO/sub 2/, becoming partially cubical and partially monoclinic in structure. At 1400 deg C magnesium ferrite does not react with ZrO/sub 2/. The admixture of Fe/sub 2/O/sub 3/ to a zirconium-- calcium mixtures forms a solid solution of ZrO/sub 2/-- CaO at 1400 deg C with x- ray diffraction lines shifted (in comparison to pure solution) towards reduced intraplane distances. Additions of Fe/sub 2/O/sub3/ lead to disintegration of solid solutions of ZrO/sub 2/ with CaO and MgO. (R.V.J.)
