THE HEAVY-PARTICLE-STRIPPING REACTION IN ($alpha$,p) REACTIONS. I. THE C$sup 12$$($$alpha$,p)N$sup 15$ (GROUND STATE) REACTION
S>The following reactions are analyzed in terms of the heavy-particle- stripping reaction: Li/sup 6/( alpha , p/sub 0/)Be/sup 9/ (ground state), Li/sup 7/( alpha , p/sub 0/)Be/sup 10/ (ground state), and Li/sup 7/( alpha , p/ sub 1/ )Be/sup 10/ (lst excited state) at E/sub alpha / 20 Mev, and F/sup 19/( alpha , p/sub 0/)Ne/sup 22/ (gro und state), F/sup 19/( alpha , p/sub 1/)Ne/sup 22/(lst excited state), and F/sup 19/( alpha , p/sub 2/)Ne/sup 22/ (2nd excited state) at about E/sub alpha / = 20 Mev. It is shown that the angular distributions of these three ( alpha , p) reactions for Li nuclei can be explained by the heavy- particle-stripping reaction except for their behavior at small angles. It is further shown that the differential cross sections found at larger angles for the F/sup 19/( alpha , p)Ne/sup 22/ reactions are also explained by the heavy- particle-stripping reaction. In particular, agreement is obtained between theory and experiment with respect to the very sharp peak at the backward direction appearing in the differential cross section for the F/sup 19/ alpha , p/sub 0/Ne/ sup 22/(ground state) reaction. In this connection, some remarks are added concerning the shell model wave functions calculated for O/sup 18/ and F/sup 19/. The reduced width extracted from the experimental data of the F/sup 19/4aa, p/sub 0/)N/sup 22/ reaction is found to be very small in comparison to that of the C/ sup 12/( alpha , p/sub 0/)N/sup 15/ reaction.
