An apparatus is designed for producing neutrons as a result of collisions between ions in high-temperature plasmas. In the apparatus, the magnetic and electric fields are made to cross at substantially right angles in several places along a torus shaped containment vessel. A plasma of deuterium gas is generated in the vessel under the electric fields and is "trapped" in any one of the "crossed field" regions to produce a release of energy.
