DETERMINATION OF THORIUM IN VARIOUS AQUEOUS SAMPLES BY ANION EXCHANGE. II. ANALYTICAL METHOD OF URINE, TAP WATER AND SEA WATER
The method proposed is as follows: thorium is coprecipitated with the basic phosphate precipitates of calcium and magnesium in a sample of a large volume; the precipitate is dissolved with 1N nitric acid and the solution is made 40 vol.% 1N nitric acid-60 vol.% ethanol mixed solution by adding ethanol; the resultant solution is passed through a resin column; the column is washed with 20 vol.% 1N nitric acid-80 vol.% ethanol mixed solution, and then with water; elution is carried out with 8N hydrochloric acid; and the amount of thorium is determined by a photoelectric spectrometer, using neo-thorin. The sensitivity is 0.5 to 1.0 mu g Th, and recovery for mu g amounts of thorium is 99% for 400 to 600 ml of human urine, and 97 or 96% for 1,000 ml of tap water or sea water, respectively. (auth)
