SYNTHESIS AND STRUCTURE OF NEW HIGH PRESSURE POLYMORPHS OF RARE-EARTH VANADATES AND ARSENATES. Technical Report No. 14

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4804227
A series of rare eanth phosphates, arsenates, vanadates, and tantalates were reacted at pressures up to 80,000 atm and 600 deg C. The structures of the resulting products were evaluated by powder x-ray diffractometry. The majority of the arsenates and vanadates (Pr-Lu) undergo a reconstructive transformation from either the monazite or the xenotime (zircon) structure to the scheelite structure. Not a single instance of the xenotime in equilibrium monazite reaction was observed. Equilibrium p-t curves were determined for most of these transitions. (auth)
