GEOLOGICAL ASPECTS OF THORIUM RECOVERY FROM COMMON ROCKS. Quarterly Progress Report, December 1, 1961 through February 28, 1962

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4804141
A generalized geologic map, together with radiometric stations, is presented for New Hampshrre. A statistical analysis of data on the main mass of Conway granite indicates that the thorium concentration is lognormally distributed and that additional stations on the surface are of doubtful value. The over-all average of 175 counts per minute remains unchanged, but a refined calibration of the field instrument raises the thorium reserve estimates by 12%. Autoradiographs examined to data indicate that thoirum and uranium are largely localized in hot grains enclosed in biotite. (auth)
