The alpha spectrum and the p- alpha - alpha coincidence spectrum of the nuclear reaction B/sup 11/(p, alpha ) was studied. Within the reso ance at E/ sub p/ = 163 kev, the coincidence spectrum cannot be ascribed to the cascade decay of C/sup 12* by the Be/sup 8*/ 2.9 Mev level. The assumption of a simultaneous decay into three alpha particles yields a simple explanation of the results by the Delves and Smith theory. It is emphasized that the triple decay results from a sharp level of the compound nuceus C/sup 12*/(16.11 Mev). (J.S.R.)
