POLAROGRAPHIC AND VOLTAMETRIC DETERMINATION OF PURINES AND PYRIMIDINES. ANALYSIS OF MIXTURES. Report No. 66

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4804038
The analytical significance and applicability is discussed of the polarographic and voltametric behavior at the dropping mercury electrode and at the stationary graphite electrode of purine and pyrimidine, and of a number of their derivatives, including those of biological and medicinal lmportance. The conditions are outlined under which one purine or pyrimidine can be determined in the presence of related compounds. To illustrate the possible analysis of mixtures, a procedure is given for the determination of the three most important nucleic acid components, i.e., adenine, cytosine and guanine, in the presence of each other. The qualitative potentialities of the electroactivity of the purines and pyrimidines is indicated, e.g., the identification of the three hydroxy- purines, hypoxanthine, xanthine, and uric acid, in the presence of each other.
