THE SPIN BEHAVIOR OF DIRAC PARTICLES IN SCATTERING PROCESSES (in German)

Journal Article · · Annalen der Physik (Leipzig)
The behavior of the four components of a generalized spin pseudovector, which was commuted with the Hamilton operator, was investigated. An operator expression for a three-dimensional unit pseudovector of the spin was given. This operator was also commutated with the Hamilton operator. lt was shown that the direction of the spin pseudovector was indeterminate and actually describes the rotation direction of the circular polarization in a plane, which lies perpendicular to this direction. The transverse component of the spin pseudovector, and not the longitudinal component, was abridged in a Lorentz transformation. ln contrast to the theory of Lee and Yang and to the Landau theory, it was shown that in a spatial reflection no asymmetry properties of the space appear (on the basis of the alleged transformation of a right-hand particle into a lefthand particle) and therefore in this transformation the spirality, that is the rotation direction of the polarization relative to the pulse direction, must be maintained and only the mathematical form of its description was changed. If the phenomena of parity nonconservation occurred, which was predicted by Lee and Yang, then it can be explained simply on the basis of the polarization properties of the particle. By an example of elastic scattering it was shown that in the interaction of particles with disappearing rest mass, the spirality was maintained only in vector and pseudovector coupling. Since the parity nonconservation is connected with the polarization properties of the particle, it must occur only in processes in which the neutrino participates. For example, one must be able to observe a phenomenon, which is similar to parity non-conservation, in the study of the polarization properties of synchrotron radiation, in the scattering of longitudinally polarized photons on polarized electrons, and in the longitudinally polarized electrons emitted in bremsstrahlung.
