RADIOCHEMICAL POLYMERIZATION OF STYRENE IN AQUEOUS SUSPENSION (in French)

The radiochemical polymerization of styrene in aqueous suspension was studied by the utilization of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) as dispersion agent. It was found that, for a given intensity of gamma radiation, the conversion speed and the grafting yield of the styrene increased slightly with the concenis found engaged in grafting increases with the dose, but it is independent of the concentration of PVA. The molecular mass of polystyrene produced is almost independent of the concentration of PVA. The role of the dispersion agent in this reaction is discussed. (tr-auth)
