X-RAY DIFFRACTION ANALYSIS OF POTASSIUM URANATES (in Russian)

Potassium uranates, Ksub 2//O(3.1 to 6.0)UO/sub 3/, have a variable composition with infinite hexagonal uranyl oxide layers (UO/sub 2/)O/sub 2/. The potassium atoms and part of the uranium atoms are distributed between the layers forming a bond. A rhombic distortion of the structure is found in uranate compositions of K/sub 2/O(5 to 6)UO/sub 3/. Aqueous potassium polyuranates are expressed by the formula (K,H/sub 2/O)UO/sub 2/(O,OH/ sub 2/nH/sub 2/O. The variations in the composition of aqueous polyuranates are related to variations in the ratio of O and OH in uranium- oxygen media. (tr-auth)
