QUARTERLY REPORT ON RADIATION CHEMISTRY , OCTOBER 1, 1961-DECEMBER 31, 1961. Fundamental Research No. 6041
Radical yields for radiolysis of liquid n-pentane, n-hexane, and n- heptane were determined using ethyleneC/sup 14/ and are tabulated. Possible reaction mechanisms for the radiolysis of liquid ethylene are discussed. Preliminary studies of the photolysis of ethyl iodide, vinyl chloride, and acrylonitrile are reported. Results of studies ou the radiolysis of propyl chloride, ethyl bromide, and ethyl iodide at small conversions are summarized. Tables are given for thie second-order structure of electron spio resonance spectra of organic radicals with from 0 to 9 equivalent nuclei. Studies of the radiation chemistry of deaerated aqueous isopropanol solutions are described briefly. The diffusivity of oxygen ions in pure vitreous silica was determined to be D = 1.23 x 10/sup -2/ exp
