GAS-PRESSURE BONDING OF REFRACTORY METALS

A solid-state bonding technique involving the use of gas pressure at elevated temperatures was utilized for selfbonding of refractory metals. In addition, the process was utilized to clad, compact, and simultaneously clad and densify refractory-metal matrix dispersions. Results are described for Cr, Nb, Mo, Mo -0.5% Ti, Re, Ta, and W.
