The investigation was carried out using electrolytic nickel containing only 0.03% impurities, including 0.012% cobalt. The samples were in the form of disks with l5 mm diameters and thicknesses of 0.l25 mm. These disks were suspended in a magnetic field by means of gauged, elastic threads and the amount of rotation caused by the field was measured by the twist in the threads. The loss due to hysteresis was determined by the difference in rotation when the field direction was reversed. This was done for samples annealed at various temperatures, all in vacuum, for one half hour. lt was found that the relationship Q/sub R/ - Ae/sup -BH/H described the hysteresis loss beginning at the anisotropy point'' in the magnetization curve; for monocrystals and samples with cubic texture'' the relationship held for small magnetic fields also. Q/ sub R/'' is the rotational loss due to hysteresis, H the magnetic field, while A and B are constants that are determined from the experimental curves. (TTT)
