BERYLLIDES FOR LIGHTWEIGHT, HIGH TEMPERATURE STRUCTURES

Journal Article · · Materials in Design Eng.
OSTI ID:4802167
Three impontant properties of beryllides; modulus of rupture, oxidation resistance, and specific gravity, are discussed, along with fabrication methods; cold pressing and sintering, isostatic pressing and sintering, hot pressing, flame spraying, and extrusion and slip casting. The combination of low density, high temperature strength, and oxidation resistance suggests that principal interest in the beryllides will probably be in the aerospace industries. Applications might include leading edges and wing and body panels. (P.C.H.)
