DIFFERENTIAL ENERGY LOSS AND RANGES OF Ne, N AND He IONS

Journal Article · · Proc. Phys. Soc. (London)

The rate of energy loss for Ne/sup 20/ and N/sp 14/ ions at 0.4 to abeut 6 Mev was measured in C, Ai, Ni, Ag, and Au. The ranges of the ions were calculated by integrating the differential energy loss, taking into account scattering and energy losses due to nuclear collisions. The rate of energy loss for He/sup 4/ ions at up to 2--Mev kinetic energy is reported, and range curves in Al, Ni, Ag, and Au at up to 3 Mev are presented. Results on the deuteron energy loss in Ag are used to extend data for protons to lower energies. The relative accuracy of the stopping power data is to about 1% and the absolute accuracy to better than 5%. (auth)
