MULTIPLET PRODUCTION BY X-RAYS

Journal Article · · Proc. Phys. Soc. (London)
Ilford G5, 400 mu thick, nuclear emulsion plates were bombarded by a hardened x-ray beam at 5 to 90 Mev. Altogether 54433 fields of view were examined, the volume of each field of view being 120 mu x 150 mu x 220 mu . A total of 21887 pairs, 1935 triplets, 106 quartets, 10 quintets and one sextet were observed. Frequency of occurrence of multiplets, (quartets, quintet, and sextet), together with the energy distribution of the small energy partners of the multiplets are presented. Possible explanations of the origin of miltiplets are discussed. (auth)
