LEAD GLASS TOTAL ABSORPTION COUNTERS

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4801955
Two large identical lead glass Cherenkov counters were built to detect and measure the energies of decay photons from neutral pions. It is noted that this method of detecting high energy gamma radiation has the advantage of 100% efficiency, good energy resolution, linearity of response, insensitivity to heavy charged particles and short time resolution. A description of operation principles is given along with details of construction, response characteristics, and performance. (J.R.D.)
