LOW ENERGY K$sup -$p SCATTERING AND /anti K/N BOUND STATES

Journal Article · · Nuclear Phys.
Assuming that the recently discovered Y* (m/sub Y*/ approximately 1385 Mev, 1/2 GAMMA approximately 15 Mev) is a K bar N(I = l) bound system, an effective range theory for K barN scattering in the I = 1 state is formulated. With a large effective range for the I = 1 state and a zero effective range for the I = 0 state, parameters which fit the present low energy K/sup -/-p scattering data and give constructive Coulomb-nuclear interference are found. The parameters indicate that the real part of the scattering length in the I = 0 state (i.e. a/sub o/) is small. This smallness of a/sub o/ is explained by postulating the existence of a K barN (I = 0) bound state lying helow the SIGMA pi threshold. A sigma pi resonance (I = 0) is expected just below the K barN threshold ( delta /sub SIGMA pi = 90 deg ). (auth)
