TEST OF P-102 PRIMARY SHIELD BOLTS. Report No. 419
Technical Report
·
OSTI ID:4801618
Torque tests were conducted on each type of bolt used in the P-102 primary shield components to obtain test data for use in the shield assembly. The torque value ranges needed to obtain the design preload for each bolt were determined. Actual assembly conditions were duplicated as to materials, nuts, and washers. A comparison was also made of thread lubrication methods including Molykoting with no excess remaining, dipping Molykote with the excess remaining on the bolt, and no lubrication at all. The type of bolts and test conditions were constant. The method of Molykote application has a very distinct effect on the torque versus tension characteristics of a bolt. (auth)
