CORRELATION AND CHRONOLOGY OF ORE DEPOSITS AND VOLCANIC ROCKS. Annual Progress Report No. 4

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4801263
Results are reported from investigations of the helium method of age determinations for minerals, the use of the helium method and other methods such as the K-Ar and common Pb isotope techniques to determine the age of ore deposition in areas in the Southwestern United States, application of geochemical- petrographic-geologic correlation techniques to the problem of volcanic stratigraphy in the Southwest, and the relationship of ore deposttion to volcanism. Appended are results of an investigation of color centers in fluorite with application to geologic time, results from a study of uranium and thorium diffusion in magnetite, results of age measurements on Older PreCambrian ignimbrite from central Arizona, results of investigations of the helium dating method by stable isotope dilution technique, and the results of field, microscopic, and geochemical studies of the Cat Mountain rhyolite in the southern portion of the Tucson Mountains, Pima County, Arizona.
