ANIONIC EXCHANGE PROCESS FOR THE RECOVERY OF URANIUM AND VANADIUM FROM CARBONATE SOLUTIONS

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4800678
An ion exchange process ls outllned for recoverlng U and V from low- chloride solutions obtnined by leaching various ores with an alkali metal carbonate. In the process, the solution is contacted with a column of a strongly basic anionic exchange resin, preferably -50 + 100 mesh Dowex 1, and U and V are selectively eluted from the resin and then recovered from the eluates by precipitation. The selective etution may be carried out in three ways: (1) selective elution of U with (NH/sub 4/)/SO/sub 4/ solutions followed by elution of V. (2) selective elution of V with NaCl and SO/sub 2/ solutions followed by elution of U. (3) selective elution of U by leach solution and re-adsorption on a second column, followed by elution of V and U from the first and second columns, respectively. A flowsheet and comparative graphs for elution by various solutions are given. (D.L.C.)
