Firing of ZnS with Tl/sub 2/S + S in sealed tubes results in yellow photoluminescence peaked at 590 mu as well as thermoluminescence and infrared- stimulated emission with the same color. In the presence of Cu or Ag, the photoluminescence is red and peaks at 835 m mu . This emission is excited at wavelengths where ZnS: Cu, Cl or ZnS of Ag, Cl, respectively, emit. The thermoluminescence and infraredstimulated emission, at room temperature, of ZnS: Ag, Tl is yellow; in the case of ZnS of Cu, Tl, the stimulated emission contains yellow and red components. (auth)
