Title: DECAY STUDIES OF THE EVEN-EVEN ISOTOPES, Er$sup 172$ AND Dy$sup 16$$sup 6$

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4799230

Er/sup 172/ and Dy/sup 166/, with half-lives of 48.7 plus or minus 0.5 and 81.8 plus or minus 0.2 hours respectively, are produced by double neutron capture in Er /sup 170/ and Dy/sup 164/. Gamma rays of the following energies are found in the decay of Er/sup 172/: two coincident 50 kev radiations, and 72, 128, 170, 200, 410, 440, and 610 kev. The proposed energy levels for Tm/sup 172/ consistent with the data are at 410, 440, 482, 538, and 610 kev. Log ft values of beta transitions indicate that the 538 and 610 kev levels have spin assignments of 0 or 1 with positive parity. The following gamma transitions are found in the decay of Dy/sup 106/: 84, 291, electrons of the 84-kev transition, permanent magnet spectrometer studies reveal the presence of two additional transitions of 30 and 54 kev that are not observed in scintillation studies. The multipolarity of the low energy transitions are as follows: 30 kev-Ml, 54 kev-E2, and 84 kev-Ml. The proposed energy levels for Ho/sup 166/ are at 54, 84, 375, and 427 kev. (auth)
